It is observed for the King’s Birthday on the 3rd Monday of January every year. In this year, it will be MLK day 2015 will be observed on January 19, 2015. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is celebrated in the owner of the King’s life, services and achievements. Dr. King was a great civil rights leader for the Americans. His campaigns led to end of the racial discrimination on public transport. He tried to end the racial discrimination and fight for the equality right in the United States. Even his words can explain his thoughts and movements for his people. MLK Quote: Dr. King said once:
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’
Dr. King was a great civil rights leader and activist. To end the racial segregation, he ran many movements and delivered many speeches. His one of the great speech was “I Have A Dream”. He was an advocate for non-violence. He wanted all of his movements and protests to be non-violent. And the return to his non-violence was none other than violence. He was assassinated in 1968. Soon after his assassination, a campaign was started for the holiday observance for the King’s Birthday. But it took so long. Later in 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed and made it a Holiday. But three year later, in 1986, the first Martin Luther King Day was actually observed. But at start, it was not observed in all of the states, but in year 2000 and afterward it was started as a federal holiday.
